Liberia

On May 2nd 2024, the Liberian President signed an Executive Order to create the Office of a War and Economic Crimes Court (OWECC) – a significant advancement towards accountability for the crimes committed and healing the wounds of the country’s civil wars that raged from 1989 to 2003. The OWECC has been assigned the task of investigating, designing, and establishing the methodology, mechanisms, and processes for the formation of a Special War Crimes Court, as well as a National Anti-Corruption Court. Our programmes in Liberia will aim at collaborating with Liberian authorities, the Office of the War and Economic Crimes Courts, and national and international organizations to advance tailored justice strategies, using a survivor-centered approach.
We are currently organizing our programs and activities, after which more information will be provided on the website.
